AN advanced laser manufacturing research and development center, jointly established by the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology (SZIIT) and Shanghai-listed Hymson Laser Technology Group Co., was recently unveiled at the SZIIT Innovation Port.
It is the first research and development center the SZIIT Innovation Port has established by teaming up with an industry-leading company and it is highly significant to the innovation port.
Wang Hui, president of the SZIIT, said that the center will strive to cater to the needs of high-end industries in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and make efforts to solve those problems that have impeded the country’s technological advancement and innovation.
By working together with an industry-leading company, the SZIIT will ratchet up efforts to nurture a scientific and technological innovation hub, which is expected to give a fresh impetus to the SZIIT’s aspiration of building itself into an excellent vocational college, according to Wang.
Wang said that in the future, the SZIIT plans to attract about 10 more industry-leading companies to jointly build research and development centers and platforms.
Shenzhen-based Hymson Laser Technology is mainly engaged in research, development, production and sales of laser and automation equipment. In September 2020, the firm’s shares made their trading debut on the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s technology-heavy sci-tech innovation board, also known as the STAR Market that is now home to some of China's biggest chipmakers, biotech companies and high-end manufactures.
The SZIIT has years of cooperation with Hymson Laser Technology. Their previous collaboration in the research and development of a laser precision texture processing equipment has achieved fruitful results and completed product transformation.
The new research and development center marks a new milestone in the corporate-university research cooperation in the laser manufacturing field, the two said.
Founded in April 2002 after the merger of three schools, the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology is a national demonstration higher vocational institution, national demonstration software vocational institution and pilot school of the“Sino-German Automotive Vocational Education Project”launched by China’s Ministry of Education.
By making full use of Shenzhen’s role as China’s tech hub, the college has teamed up with several local tech giants such as Huawei Technologies, Tencent Holdings, China Electronics Technology Group and Shenzhen Inovance Technology Co. The school-corporate cooperation has benefited the institute and boosted its academic capabilities.
